I received a message from a fan on Twitter who was pretty upset because she got blocked by Rick Riordan. Say what? Blocked! I went onto his page on Percy Jackson Movies’ Twitter and behold he had blocked me too (but not on my personal twitter)!!!
Blocked by Rick Riordan
Instantly, I went over to Google and typed in “blocked by rick riordan” and a Twitter account called Blocked by Rick came up along with his Frequently Asked Questions page. This is what it says:
Q. Why was I blocked on Twitter? I’m a fan!
These are the most common reasons:
You spammed my Twitter feed. If you ask the same question or make the same comment twenty or thirty times in a row, that does not increase your odds of getting an answer. It dramatically increases your odds of getting blocked.
Your comments, your handle, your picture, or your questions are inappropriate — meaning not rated “PG.” I write children’s books. I don’t want to look at rude, explicit, threatening or R-rated stuff in my Twitter feed.
You impersonated me. If this happens, your Twitter account will be reported and likely suspended, but in the meantime you’ll be blocked.
You are following my account for the wrong reasons. My Twitter account is all about discussing and promoting the books. I don’t want to focus on other stuff. For instance, if you’re a fan of the movies, that’s your business, but you’re in the wrong place. I find mentions of the movies, pictures from the movies, and constant questions about the movies distracting and annoying. If I see them too often, I filter them out. If it’s clear from your handle, your pictures, your description or whatever that you are here for the movies, then, yeah, you might be blocked. If that doesn’t sit well with you, sorry, but I do it for my own peace of mind, the same way I filter spam emails into my ‘junk’ folder. If you want to talk about the movies, my advice is don’t do it around me.
Let me highlight this for you!
I never tweet to Rick from @percyjacksonmov so to be blocked for simply following him is crazy! Is he basically saying to make a choice between only his books or only his movies? What is so wrong with being a fan of both? So whatever that he blocks the fansite, but to block devoted fans who want to tweet to him, who want to see what he tweets… I just don’t get it. I feel mad for the girl who sent me a message as she’s kind and just because her picture is of Alexandra Daddario and mentions Paloma Kwiatkowski and Alexandra Daddario in her description and tweets to the PJ actors she gets blocked!? Why?
So ranting over.
The big question is, has Rick blocked you? How do you feel about it?
Someone please send me a really funny meme about being blocked by him if you find one! Oh and use this hashtag: #BlockedbyUncleRick
All personally feelings aside, I still like his books and I do like the movies!
