Last night while watching Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief on Telemundo on noticed how different the armor is and especially how the campers dress from one movie to the next along with their ages.
The Half-Blood Campers in The Lightning Thief are always dressed for battle and when it comes to Capture the Flag they are wearing Roman galea helmets. One thing I do like are their shields. They’re not just have one symbol on the shields but vary for what cabin they are in. Another thing I noticed about The Lightning Thief campers is their ages. Some of the guys have got to be in their upper 20s. The one guy (check out the picture) even has a tattoo! They’re definitely not young demigods.
The campers in the Sea of Monsters definitely dress more like they do in the book. I wish we would have seen more orange shirts especially on Percy and Annabeth. However, the kids did not dress ready for combat which made sense as after all the camp is their safe haven. The armor the campers do wear, when flanking Mr. D during his speech taken from Annabeth and when they are patrolling the boundaries of camp, is pretty cool. However, I still find it odd about the shield since they have tridents on them. If anything wouldn’t it be a symbol for Zeus and not Poseidon? Lastly, the ages are a LOT closer to what the campers would actually be. There are young kids and kids in their teens. There’s not overgrown, muscle bulking, dudes running around that are clearly way older than anyone else that should be at the camp.
Which one do I love better? Well… besides the shields, I feel Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters really brings the correct feel for Camp Half-Blood. Because Camp Half-Blood is not only a place for demigods to train, but it is their home where they should feel safe. What are your thoughts on this? Comment below!
