20th Century Fox is putting into active development a sequel to Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief and could start filming as early as this summer according to a Los Angeles Times article. The movie would be subtitled “The Sea of Monsters” and will derive from the second book in Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson & the Olympians series. 20th Century Fox has hired Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski to write a script for the new film which they are currently doing. Alexander and Karaszewski wrote the screenplay for Agent Cody Banks staring Frankie Muniz and Hilary Duff.
The film is still in its very, very early stages, so keep holding your breath. So far the film does not have a director. Chris Columbus is not expected to return to direct the second movie although he will produce the picture. No worries, for Logan Lerman fans as he will return as Percy Jackson.
Currently on IMDB’s page for Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Sea of Monsters, Gabby Cunha is listed to play Thalia Grace. She is listed as uncredited for the first Percy Jackson film.
Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief grossed a decent $89 million in the U.S., but pulled an addition $137 million worldwide.
