Another Point of View
Written by Katie C.
When she first sees him, he’s snoring loudly and drooling on his pillow. His dark hair is splayed out on the pillow his head rests on, and one arm is draped over his head. He looks like an idiot. But, he is the kid that killed a Minotaur (without training, according to Chiron, so Annabeth’s willing to forgive him for sleeping like a freak).
His mouth is wide open, and he looks so restless–even in a deep sleep like this–Annabeth’s fingers touch his fringe lightly, and he stills; his nose wrinkling. She doesn’t move for a few moments, her breathing the only noise in the room. It’s silent and still, and she’s worried he’ll wake up.
But then, he lets out this big, god awful snore, and she snorts.
Technically, she’s just supposed to be waking him up to get him to eat, but for the Gods sake, Chiron knows she’ll go digging for answers, so she’s going to ask him questions anyways.
She pokes him twice, and once he makes another snore then he blinks blearily at her and as he opens his mouth she shoves a spoonful of ambrosia in. That way, he can’t ask questions and she can. “What about the summer solstice? What’s happening?” The new kid, Percy; she surmises from the way Grover’s been complaining that he [Grover] is cursed and he’ll never get his searchers silence, just looks at her blankly, his green eyes flitting over her, and manages to get out a gruff “what?” before she spews more questions at him. Annabeth’s only got so much time to give this kid—Percy, she reminds herself, Percy—the ambrosia before Chiron gets suspicious.
“What’s going on? What was stolen? We’ve only got a few weeks!”
Percy just looks at her blankly, his hazy eyes trying to focus, mutters he’s sorry and he doesn’t know before he drifts off to sleep again.
She leaves the room quick after that, but Percy never strays far from her thoughts—and neither do his sleep mutterings.
