The Secret Room
Written by James Junkers
What started off as a normal day at Camp Half-Blood turned out to be everything but normal. It all started as I made my way to Bunker 9, to continue my work on the Argo II. I blasted my fire, the secret to opening the door, and what I saw amazed me. Buford, my magical table, was running around frantically. I walked up to him, and he ran away. I chased him through a maze of rooms, and when he finally stopped running, I realized what he was doing. Standing in front of me was a giant door, big enough for a god. Buford must have wanted me to see this for some reason.
I reached into my tool belt, and pulled out my three-pound club hammer, just in case I would need it, and proceeded towards the door. I took a deep breath, and pushed it open, but nothing happened. I tried again, but nothing. Really, I thought. Lead me all the way over here just to be stuck at the door? Then it dawned on me: maybe it wasn’t just any ordinary door. This is Bunker 9, built by the children of Hephaestus. I stared at my hand, created fire, and put my hand to the door. As I suspected, it opened.
I could not have prepared myself for what was lying beyond that door. I saw miles and miles of dead bodies, and destruction. Walls collapsed. People fallen. Doors broken. I stared at the mass demolition for a while, not even attempting to think about what it could be. But once I thought about it, it made sense. Annabeth had told me a story about the fight with Kronos. She said they had travelled the Labyrinth, and eventually it had vanished, with the great inventor, Daedalus’ death. This must have been an entrance. Maybe Annabeth wasn’t completely correct; maybe the Labyrinth hadn’t disappeared, but rather had been destroyed. The more I thought about it, the more sense it made. The Greeks may have used the Labyrinth during the Demigod Civil War, and this is how they got there.
With all the ideas running through my head, one stood out the most: this could be crucial for our mission…this could help us live…this could help us defeat the giants…I had to tell someone.
