Percy Jackson’s Golden Fleece Inspires Fox to Give Handmade Blankets to Kids in Need!

How cool is this!

The Golden FleecePercy Jackson’s cinematic quest to find the Golden Fleece is inspiring some good deeds here in the real world.

The big screen demigod will help bring warmth and comfort to critically ill and needy children thanks to a campaign between Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment, which is distributing his latest on-screen adventure “Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters,” and Project Linus.

Since its inception in 1998, Project Linus has distributed handmade blankets and afghans to over 5 million children. The non-profit’s name is derived from the “Peanuts” character Linus, who is never far from his well-loved blanket in the strip.

Fox is helping with Project Linus’ mission to provide a symbol of security by donating close to 1,000 blankets to the organization. The blankets will quilted, knit and crocheted at an event at the Georgia Aquarium on December 16, that will also involve Atlanta-based UPS. Additionally, Fox will provide blanket making kits to bloggers across the country and encourage them to donate their finished products to Project Linus.

The event will take place in conjunction with the home entertainment debut of “Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters” next month and will also be used to publicize Project Linus’ national “Make a Blanket Day,” which takes place on February 15.

“Thousands of volunteer ‘blanketeers’ have been making blankets to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children in need for more than 18 years,” Carol Babbit, National President of Project Linus, said. “Every blanket counts, and we are excited to be working with Fox and UPS to kick-off our Make a Blanket Day event.”

“Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters” takes up with the teenage son of Poseidon, as he embarks on a quest to recover the fleece, which has the power to save his world from mythological attacks. It stars Logan Lerman, Brandon T. Jackson and Stanley Tucci and was directed by Thor Freudenthal (“Diary of a Wimpy Kid”).

The film, which made roughly $200 million at the worldwide box office, debuts on Digital HD on Dec. 3 and on Blu-ray and DVD on Dec. 17, following Fox’s strategy of offering films digitally roughly two weeks before they hit store shelves.
